About the Teachers

Ellen Kaufman, MDEllen Kaufman, MD, is a non-practicing Ob-Gyn who currently serves at the Director of Medical Education at Cooley Dickinson Hospital. She is a graduate of the MBSR Practicum and the Teacher Development Intensive Program at the Center for Mindfulness at UMass Medical School. She herself suffers from chronic pain which was the impetus for her to try the MBSR course at UMass Medical School as a participant in 1997. It changed her life by helping her to develop a different relationship to the pain. She continues to benefit greatly from practicing the MBSR techniques, which she has enjoyed sharing with others at Cooley Dickinson Hospital since February 2006.

Jeanie Erlbaum, MSWJeanie Erlbaum, MS, has been studying yoga and meditation since 1965 and has been teaching since 1972.  An experienced registered 500-Hour Yoga Alliance Teacher, she is certified as a teacher of several styles of yoga, meditation, and stress reduction. She was trained in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction at the Center for Mindfulness at UMass Medical School.  She has studied Zen for over thirty years, and in 2012 was designated as a Senior Dharma teacher by Boundless Way Zen in Worcester, Ma. She has created several yoga and meditation CDs; and her book Sit with Less Pain: Gentle Yoga for Meditators was published in 2014 by Wisdom Publications.
